That Time We Went to New York

img_8135

I’m going to be honest and tell you that if it were not for my husband I wouldn’t have gone to New York. This trip was on his “bucket list.” Most of the trips we have taken in our 9 year relationship have been places I wanted to go. And by “places” I mean beaches. My love language is beach vacations. Beach(or pool), sunshine, and a Pina colada in hand. So it was clearly his turn to pick a destination.

We stayed at the Moxy in Manhattan and it was an excellent hotel. Our room was cute and very small but I hear that’s common in the city. I will share some pictures of our room in the post so you can get an idea of the size. The location was great and within walking distant of several shops, restaurants, and landmarks. I would highly recommended it if you are planning a trip to NYC.

Day 1:

Soo.. our flight was suppose to be a direct flight early on Thursday morning. Things did not go as planned. We got bumped back in time and we had to fly to Detroit then on to New York. This always seems to happen to us. Anyone else? In addition, on the flight from Detroit to New York we ran into some turbulence. My husband and I were so happy to get off that plane. Needless to say we basically lost a day of vacation with the flight changes.

When we finally made it in to New York and to our hotel we did some exploring of the area and grabbed a bite to eat. We tired some pizza that was near our hotel and it was alright but nothing that I thought was outstanding.

Day 2:

We headed out and grabbed coffee at Gregory’s and then on to Dough Doughnuts in City Kitchen. City Kitchen is on the second floor and there are several eateries within the space. There are floor to ceiling windows and you can grab a bar stool and eat at a bar by the windows. It was lovely. Coffee, donuts, my husband, and people watching.

After  breakfast, we headed out to get on a bus tour that goes around the city. We used the bus company Topview and had a good experience. We were always able to get a seat on the top and never waited long for a bus at any of the stops. We chose this one because you can hop on and off at any of the routine stops. I think most bus tours allow for the getting on and off and it’s a nice way to see and travel the city.

We hopped of the bus mid-way through to get on a the Liberty Cruise that takes you around New York harbor. During this we were able to see the Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island, a beautiful Manhattan skyline, and views of the Brooklyn Bridge. The cruise was longer than we expected but we enjoyed it.

After our boat cruise we ate nearby at P.J Clarke’s. We were able to sit outside under some patio lights and it was such a lovely outdoor dining experience. We ordered the fish & chips and a cheeseburger and split them between the two of us. The food and drinks were delicious and I would highly recommend going there if you are in that area.

Day 3:

We took advantage of our hotel’s roof top brunch at the “Magic Hour.” It was a beautiful day and the rooftop had such a cool vibe. The menu had both unique and traditional breakfast options. I could have definitely ate here every morning but you had to have reservations so no such luck on that. I tried to be very casual in my picture taking… lol

Once we finished our brunch we decided to go to the 9/11 Memorial and Museum.  It’s such a beautiful and moving tribute to all that lost their lives that day. We decided to do the self guided audio tour and it was nice to have some more insight into the memorial and the events of that day. I’m sure most of you recall what you were doing that day. I was in high school at the time and we were able to watch the events happen on TV’s that were in our classrooms. I remember going home from school and there was a line about a mile long at the gas station near my house. I think everyone felt shaken and unsure what would happen in the days to come. I didn’t take any pictures at the memorial as I truly just wanted to be in the space and pay my respects. We spent about 5 hours at the memorial so I would recommend carving out some time if you are planning to visit.

Afterwards, we found a sushi restaurant called Haru. I’ll be honest and say that it was decent but I think the sushi restaurants we have in Des Moines are better. We walked to the Brooklyn Bridge after dinner and then went and got frozen yogurt at a place called Taiyaki NYC. It was sooo small inside and smelled wonderful. They are known for their fish cones and they have lots of different options or you can make your own. They have a few locations in the United States and if you are ever near one you should go.

Day 4:

We ate breakfast at Scotty’s Diner on Lexington Ave and it was good but nothing to write home about. The service was fast and friendly and the price was very reasonable for New York. After eating breakfast we realized how close we were to Grand Central Station so we walked through the grand terminal and looked at some of the shops/market inside.

We journeyed on to rent some bikes to ride around Central Park. It took us a minute to figure out where the bike lane started and what side of the lane we should be on. You can’t ride a bike in the park but they have a bike trail right around the park. You can get off it and walk your bike into the park. Riding the bike was a good workout and a great way to see the entire park. It’s truly magnificent. We went into the park when we were done with our ride. It’s such a busy place but not crowded and I believe you could always find a quiet spot if that’s what you wanted. It was Ryan’s favorite part of the trip and I think it might have been mine as well.

That night we went to Little Italy for dinner and it was fantastic. The city blocks off Mulberry street so there is no traffic and all the restaurants and shops are open and people are eating outside and going from shop to shop. I’m not sure if that is just a weekend thing or if that is even on weekdays? We ate at Buona Notte and it was excellent. It’s so hard to choose as there is so many options but I don’t think you can go wrong with anything. After dinner, we did a night time bus tour which was fun but a little chilly. To see New York at night is something in and of itself.  Also, you can cover a lot of territory this way.

Day 5:

We booked a late flight out of New York on our last day. Check out time at our hotel was 11AM so we were able to check our luggage at the hotel, free of charge, until we were ready to leave for the airport. It made it really nice to not have to carry luggage around the city.

We grabbed some coffee and then did some walking around. We really didn’t have a plan so we just did some exploring. We walked in Bryant Park, looked around Rockefeller Center, and went into Saks Fifth Ave (just to dream a little). We saw a movie being filmed outside of Saks and we watched that for a little while. Sheldon from The Big Bang Theory was there so we had our first and last celebrity sighting. We stopped by Magnolia bakery and I picked up a banana bread pudding. They are famous for it and I now know why, it was one of the best things I ate on this trip. Then onto pizza at John’s near Time’s Square.

We had an excellent time together and the city treated us well. I am so happy that we were able to go and check this off the bucket list. We were happy to head home to the Midwest.

One Shirt-Five Looks

Hey Friends! I hope everyone is having a wonderful start to Summer. ☀️It has been so hot in Iowa these last few days….. I love it. We are just getting back from our family vacation to Okoboji, IA and we had a wonderful time. I totally understand why people want to live the “lake life.” Are you headed out on a vacation this year or maybe a staycation?

I am so excited to share this blog post with you all! I recently purchased a ruffled trimmed blouse at Old Navy and FELL IN LOVE. I have been wanting to do a blog post showcasing a basic piece of clothing that can be worn multiple ways and this blouse was the perfect piece. It’s so important to have versatile basic’s in your wardrobe because so many looks can come from that basic piece. In addition, you are getting more mileage out of what you purchase.

Look One

In Look One I paired the ruffle blouse with white denim jeans and a wedge sandal. The white denim really makes the color of the blouse POP.  I think this outfit would look great with turquoise earrings or a necklace. Even adding a leopard clutch would really elevate this outfit. Sometimes it’s ALL about accessories. #illbeinacessories

Look Two

For Look Two I paired the ruffle blouse with black linen shorts and t-strap black sandals. This might be one of my favorite looks of the five. I love that it looks so sophisticated but at the same time is so comfortable. I mean who doesn’t want that? The small front tuck of the shirt gives shape to the waist so it doesn’t get lost with the ruffle top and loose knit style shorts.

Look Three

In Look Three I decided to mix it up with some blue striped wide leg pants and a brown t-strap sandal. Wide leg pants are back in the fashion rotation this year and I am not upset about it. I love the look of the coral against the blue stripe pant. Also, the front tuck is good for this outfit so you have some waist definition. I may be pushing the line of looking like a sailor but I’m ok with it.

img_7005

Look Four

For Look Four I paired the blouse with a pair of distressed denim jean shorts and t-strap black sandals. This is a much more casual look with the distressed denim and the untucked blouse. This is another favorite look of mine. This blouse truly looks great tucked or untucked and that can’t be said for all shirts.  I think it’s a huge advantage when trying to create different looks.

img_6998

Look Five

For Look Five I paired the blouse with my favorite pair of tomgirl jean shorts that are longer in length. If you are wanting shorts but don’t feel comfortable wearing a traditional short these are a great option. These shorts are snug fitting so if you are wanting a looser fit you may need to go up one size. I kept with the more casual look by keeping the blouse untucked and wearing sandals.

My Essentials

Hello Friends!!

There has been so much going on around here that I didn’t get a blog post up last month.  I am making sure I get my May blog post in and right back out to you all!!

If you have been following along on my IG stories you know that we have started work on finishing our basement. And by “we” I mean we hired Andy, who owns Bear Building Company, LLC. Check him out on Facebook!! We are a couple weeks in and I am so  pleased with the work and progress.  I have been looking and focusing on all things basement including carpet, paint, fixtures, and decor. To say we are excited about this project is an understatement. We are so looking forward to having more space!!

Also, with summer around the corner I have been signing Ella up for swim lessons, tumble tots, and getting ready for her dance recital. It doesn’t seem possible? I mean just yesterday she was a baby who only wanted to be held and had her days and nights mixed up. However, in thinking about my level of sleep depravation back then I’m ok with her being old enough to do these things. LOL

With life being busy it made me think about some “essentials” in life. And by essentials I mean the gadgets and products that make my life easier or that I wouldn’t want to go without. So I wanted to share… because it’s my blog and I can.

First up, my Chi Spin & Curl. I have always struggled to curl my hair. I had honestly given up. I was satisfied with my hair stylist doing it when I would go in to get my hair done every three months.  Then one day I came across the Chi online and the reviews were all fantastic so I thought what do I have to lose? This tool has been a game changer for me. I’m able to curl my hair in less than 20 minutes and it looks amazing!! It has different heat and time settings to match anyone’s hair type. I highly recommend this to anyone who struggles to curl their own hair.

Next up, Beautycounter products. If you have never heard of this company check it out here: https://www.beautycounter.com/

I did a blog post early on in my blogging career about Beautycounter and their mission of getting safer products into the hands of everyone. The health and beauty industry is not as regulated as one would believe. Unfortunately, what I was buying at my local store or makeup counter was full of chemicals and questionable ingredients. It’s one thing when that happens to me but it’s another thing to use some of those products on my daughter.

I have been using Beautycounter makeup and face wash now for probably 3 years. I also use the kids bath collection for Ella and I love it!! I would not want to go without these products and feel even better knowing they are safe.

This year for my birthday my thoughtful co-workers bought me an Ember mug! It has been so wonderful. I get to pick my desired temperature and my coffee stays warm!! Where was this when Ella was a newborn?? If you ever get pulled away from your coffee or tea and come back and it’s cold this is the mug for you! If having this is wrong I don’t want to be right.

In the past, I was never really one for perfume or body spray. But honestly, motherhood happened and I don’t shower everyday. #momlife

Queen Bee scent from Good Chemistry has been an essential for me on those no shower days. It’s sold at Target and they have it in body spray, perfume, and a rollerball. There are several scent options but Queen Bee is my favorite. It’s vegan and cruelty free!!!

Last, but not least is our Nespresso. My husband and I use this almost everyday. It’s an investment but in the end it has saved us some money. I love getting coffee at a coffee shop but it can get expensive to do that daily. This has been a great machine and I have nothing but good things to say about it. ☕️💕 Coffee is for sure an essential in my book.

Let me know what your “essentials” are in life.

There’s really no wrong answer on this one. 🙂

As always, thanks for following along and being here with me on this journey.

Better Late Than Never…Right??

Hey Yo!!

It’s the last day of March and I am just now getting around to a blog post. I think this might be the closest I’ve ever come to my self-imposed deadline of getting one blog post up a month.  March was a busy month for me in general. I celebrated a birthday, went to a Justin Timberlake concert, and finalized the plans for finishing our basement. If you follow my Instagram (https://www.instagram.com/pinkthoughtsespressoshots/) I gave a small tour of our unfinished basement on my stories and shared our design inspiration.   I am going to continue to keep everyone updated on our progress and also ask for your input along the way. I would love to have you follow along!! I will also be getting an office space down there and I am so thrilled. I may not be a professional blogger but I love this pastime and want to nurture it as much as I can.  **Remember MAMA there has to be some time for you in there.. I see you.. I know it’s hard. **

Hence this post being on the last possible day.

On that note, I thought I would share some things that I have done lately to fill up my cup(I am such a social worker I can’t help it). When the world get’s crazy and I lose my patience’s with my little I know it’s time to back up and re-center myself. So I wanted to share some things that have helped me lately.

If you live in the Des Moines Metro Area you should check out Big Acai Bowls (https://bigacaibowl.com/). I recently went there with a friend and spent some time  chatting with her, eating these delicious bowls, and just taking a break. It was so awesome. They have two locations and the Valley Junction shop has a really great space for kiddos!! Spending some time with a close friend and checking out a new local place together is something that will be sure to raise your spirits.

img_4868.jpg

If you have never heard/read/watched anything from Rachel Hollis you stop what you were doing right now and you Google that shiz. Haha.. I’m not kidding. She is AMAZING, her work is AMAZING, and her message is AMAZING. She wrote “Girl Wash Your Face” last year and this is basically like the next edition. Don’t underestimate the power of some quiet time and a good book.

img_4882

I have made it my mission lately to try to make it to the gym at least 3 times a week. I have been surprisingly successful. It may be a quick couple miles but it helps to clear my mind. It also makes me feel less guilty for eating Cheetos. #realtalk  My husband bought those pink shoes for my birthday and let me tell you they were helpful with my gym motivation. I also truly needed some new running shoes. I’m not saying you should pick up running but maybe a walk, or a swim, or a workout video. It feels good to get those endorphins going.

img_4784.jpg

So in summary, hang out with a friend, discover a new local spot, read a good book, or work up a sweat. All of these things have helped me and I truly hope they could help you too. Take some time for you!!! You are important and you deserve it.  And it might help you be better for the people around you too.

Styling Overalls

Since overalls were introduced in the 1750’s they have gone from exclusively work wear to casual wear. You either love them or you hate them. Well for me, its love. When I saw some of my favorite retailers carrying overalls I was overjoyed. So, as I promised on my Facebook page, I wanted to do a blog post about styling overalls. And maybe, just maybe, I can sway the non-believers. You can be an adult in your 30’s and still wear overalls. I promise. Let’s get started!

Classic Look: Pairing overalls with a solid colored long sleeve tee. Overalls already make a statement in general so if your feeling unsure about wearing them this is a good option to start with. Commissioned links ⬇️

Long Sleeved: https://shopstyle.it/l/ZnV7

Overalls (limited sizes): https://shopstyle.it/l/ZnV9

img_2486-1

Sophisticated Look: This was a new styling try for me and I loved it! Black overalls are so popular this season. I wanted to give them a higher end look so I wore a chambray shirt & leopard flats. This will be a repeat outfit for me this winter.                 Commissioned Links ⬇️

Chambray shirt: https://shopstyle.it/l/ZnWx

Black Overalls (similar): https://shopstyle.it/l/ZnWy

Leopard flats ( similar): https://shopstyle.it/l/ZnWI

Layered Look: I still regret not buying this floral cardigan. It was so lovely and the sleeves belled out in the perfect way. #regrets Layering overalls with a chunky floral or patterned cardigan helps to break up the overalls. It might even feel more “adult” to some of our skeptics out there who think overalls are for children.

Overalls (another style option): https://shopstyle.it/l/ZnXu

Cardigan options: https://shopstyle.it/l/ZnXK

https://shopstyle.it/l/ZnXO

Boots: https://shopstyle.it/l/ZnX0

Scarf Look: This might seem really simple but trust me. Adding a scarf can really take an outfit up a notch. This outfit below is a great example of that. Everything about it is a classic look but that scarf makes it stand out. It pulls it all together. This outfit would look lost without that scarf. Commissioned Links ⬇️

Black overall options: https://shopstyle.it/l/ZnYn

https://shopstyle.it/l/ZnYo

Striped Look: Forgive me for this last photo. The mirror was small and the daylight was coming in like a mother… It’s one of my first styling attempts with overalls and it can’t be forgotten. This striped long sleeve shirt and scarf combo was perfect. I got so many compliments on this outfit. The boots also made it feel “dressier”.                    Commissioned Links ⬇️

Earrings : Nickel & Suede

I hope that was helpful and gives you some ideas on how to style overalls. I didn’t do any Spring/Summer outfits but know that is a possibility too!! A tank top and sandals are a great pairing with overalls. The options are endless!!

Old Navy Try On Session

Greetings!! Like most of my blog posts I will start it with talking about the weather. It’s currently -8 degrees in Iowa and the ground is covered with snow. Winter has offically come to Iowa. So I’ll be over here dreaming of Spring and Summer.

I went to Old Navy this week and did a small try on session and wanted to share my picks! It’s good to go into a store every now and again to try things on you may have seen online that you just weren’t sure about. Old Navy has some really great things out right now and online photos don’t do them justice! Most of these pieces would be great transition items to go from Winter to Spring.

Lastly, I mentioned this on a recent Instagram post but I love shopping alone. I don’t know what that says about me??LOL  When I go shopping with other people I get anxious. It’s truly no ones fault but my own. I get in my head too much. Thankfully, there were a couple of people who shared in my anxiety so that made me feel better. I think I just really enjoy taking my time and looking around. And sometimes that means I may go back to the same area several times. Just in case I might have missed something. #imweird

Ok, lets move on to my picks!!

Outfit #1

This jacket is 😍. First off, the color is beautiful. It’s a lighter weigh jacket, fits TTS, and has great detailing with the buttons and cut out on the collar. I’m wearing a size medium. I’m so excited to wear this out! The jeans I have on were also a good find. They are the Rockstar ripped hem skinny jean. The sizes on this particular style seem to vary quite a bit. I would encourage you to go into the store, if you can, to try them on.  Links below ⬇️

Jacket- https://shopstyle.it/l/YHRm

Jeans- https://shopstyle.it/l/YHRp

Booties- https://shopstyle.it/l/YHRr

Outfit #2

Next, I found this adorable french terry shirt. I love the pale pink color and the cuffs at the sleeve. It’s perfect for a small front tuck. It comes in other colors but I always gravitate to pink. Link below ⬇️(same jeans and booties as above).

Shirt – https://shopstyle.it/l/YHQc

Outfit #3

Jumpsuit anyone?? The thing about a jumpsuit is it’s a complete outfit. I don’t have to think I can just throw it on and go. However, if you have to go pee it’s kinda a vibe killer. It’s still a win in my book. This particular jumpsuit is casual but stylish. I’m wearing a size medium and I would say it runs pretty TTS. Perfect for farmers markets, playgrounds, movies, or running errands. Link below⬇️

Jumpsuit – https://shopstyle.it/l/YHWR

Outfit #4

img_3659

I love rainbows. 🌈 I will never grow up. I couldn’t pass up trying this sweatshirt on. It’s a statement piece and is light-weight enough to transition nicely from winter to spring. I think it would look good with a lighter pair of boyfriend jeans or camo joggers.           Link Below ⬇️

Rainbow- https://shopstyle.it/l/YH1e

That’s a wrap folks!! There were some misses from the session but that’s the way it goes. It’s fun to try things on because the thing you like least on the hanger sometimes ends up being your favorite! Be Adventurous!!

I Dip, You Dip, We Dip

It’s only 2 days ’til Christmas….how did that happen? LOL. The days are long but the years seem to fly by-well for me anyway. With Christmas approaching and people getting together for the holiday I had a request for some easy appetizers to bring to holiday parties and gatherings.  So I thought I would show you guys a new recipe I found and also a recipe that I use as my solid go to!! Both of these recipes are dips of different forms. Does that even make sense… I don’t know? Let’s be honest my self-proclaimed expertise is not baking or cooking. However, these fabulous recipes have been created by the professionals and I am just following their lead!!

First Up-

Cheesecake Cake Batter Dip

I found this recipe when I was scrolling through Facebook one day and I could not resist giving it a try. The recipe can be found at https://www.wineandglue.com/cheesecake-cake-batter-dip/. There is a lot of great recipes on this blog that you guys can check out! Sometimes knowing where to go for a good recipe is half the battle. Ok, so back to this cheesecake cake batter dip. I have made this dip two times and each time it was a hit and I brought little to nothing home with me. It’s also really easy to make and the list of ingredients is so simple (check out the link for info and directions). I took a picture the first time I made it so you guys can get an idea of how I served the dip. You won’t be disappointed!!

img_8270-1

Next Up-

Mini Bacon Ranch  Cheese Ball

This next recipe I found while looking around Pinterest for something other than a recipe but that is how it works. I love the idea of having a cheese ball in mini form! Also, the presentation factor of these is on point. Guests can just grab one and not have to battle with a whole cheese ball. The recipe can be found at https://www.honeyandbirch.com/mini-bacon-ranch-cheese-ball-recipe/. Her recipes are awesome and her food photos are outstanding. I’m taking this recipe to our family Christmas and I’m excited for everyone to try them out!! I snapped a picture of my finished product!! Yummy!!

If you are looking for something sweet or savory hopefully one of these dip ideas can be of use to you for holiday gatherings!! Also, they are both simple and won’t take to much of your time away from family and friends.  Merry Christmas everyone!!

I look forward to the New Year and what it has in store for Pink Thoughts & Espresso Shots!! Thank you all for your support it means so much to me.

Holiday Gift Guide $25 and Under

Happy late November!!

I hope you are staying warm! It’s cold in Iowa but we are seeing some sunshine today so that always helps.

Are you ready for the Holiday shopping to begin? Have you already started? I know some folks that are completely done! I totally understand if you want to enjoy Thanksgiving and think about shopping at a later date. I was just telling someone I don’t even decorate my house for Christmas until after Thanksgiving. We have a lot to be thankful for and I want to be mindful of that. But let’s be clear, once Thanksgiving is over the gloves are off people. LOL

I recently took a small poll on FB asking my readers what they wanted to see as far as gift guides. The vote was between gifts $25-$50 or gifts $25 and under. Gift’s $25 and under took the cake! And I could not be more pleased!! It’s hard to find a decent gift under that price point these days. If you are like me and want to give a good gift but sometimes end up spending more then the allotted amount to achieve that goal -spend no more. I have looked over a lot of gift ideas to bring you some good gifts for $25 and under. Let’s do this thing!! #iamanerd

Gifts For HER

1. These J.Crew studs are normally $14.50 and are currently on sale for $7.50. (Not sure how long that sale will last.) These are the perfect touch of sparkle to give as a stocking stuffer, Secret Santa, or as an add on to a bigger gift.       Shopping Link: https://shopstyle.it/l/VkaL

2.  Who doesn’t love a beautiful coffee cup? You can never have too many-especially if they are as beautiful as this one. This monogramed cup will be a hit either on it’s own or paired with coffee or tea. Shopping Link: https://shopstyle.it/l/Vkcr

3.  Have you even heard of Good Chemistry at Target? I stumbled across this fragrance line and have been totally smitten ever since. This company is cruelty free which is a plus in my book!!  My favorite scent is Queen Bee but there are several options. I love that it comes in a rollerball because it makes it easier to apply and better for travel. Shopping Link: https://shopstyle.it/l/VkfS

Squares

Hello Everyone!! It’s mid-October and this month will be over before we know it. Then it’s on to Thanksgiving and Christmas. Wowza…

This post is a little different than my normal posts. I’ve had some things on my mind that I wanted to share for two reasons: 1. I think it will feel good to put it out into the atmosphere. 2. Maybe someone else feels this way and they will be comforted that they are not alone. So here goes.

I started Pink Thoughts & Espresso Shots more than a year ago and it has been a great creative outlet for me. If you are new to my blog I actually work full time as a social worker and this blog is really a dream/passion of mine. I wanted to share my life, fashion, and whatever came across my path that I thought others may enjoy. I spend what spare time I can writing blog posts and getting content up on Instagram/Facebook/Pinterest. It’s fun and I enjoy it so so much. But sometimes it has the opposite effect on me. Instead of feeling joy and a sense of accomplishment from my blog I end up feeling like I don’t quite measure up.

Which brings me to the title of this post: Squares

Do you have an Instagram or Facebook account? If Yes ➡️

Do you find yourself scrolling through and comparing yourself to other’s squares? To the point it starts having a negative effect. You start to question yourself and what you are doing or have accomplished?

I’m very guilty of this when it comes to the blog and even sometimes in my personal life. I’m guessing that maybe some of you do the same?? Maybe not in terms of being a blogger but maybe in terms of your lifestyle in general. Social media is a really amazing creation but it also gives people unrealistic expectations. It makes people believe that perfection is the only way. That you have to look a certain way, your house has to be farmhouse chic and be decorated according to the next holiday, your children have to be adorable and dressed like little adults, and you and your husband love being photographed together while drinking coffee in bed. You see where I’m going. It’s bullshit really. Those little squares seem to find the most vulnerable part of ourselves and our lives and pull it to the forefront. And this is when social media only serves to fuel our insecurities. Because maybe your life isn’t where you want it to be or you are just in a slump and flipping through these squares makes it worse. If what I’m saying doesn’t happen to you I truly envy you. If it does just remember we are all doing the best we can and that’s good enough. You are good enough. Be you – don’t try to be anyone else. Your squares are beautiful and valuable.

If these negative thoughts happen to often for you give social media a break for awhile or let it go completely. It’s not worth questioning yourself or your life because it doesn’t measure up to someone else’s square.

Live your life outside that fucking square.

I more than anyone need that reminder.

End Rant.

Thank you.

The Fall Files

Hello Everyone!!

I would say with the kiddos going back to school, football starting, and rumblings of pumpkin spice everything we have officially made it to fall. I had a sweet friend ask me “what’s trending” for fall this year. I told her a couple things but I said for the most part fall fashion stays pretty consistent (my opinion). Although, wide leg jeans are making a comeback and I did not see that coming. However, the most important thing about fashion is to wear what you feel good in. Fashion isn’t what the main stream media tells us or shows us. It’s the style you create.

I wanted to show you all what I have added to my closet for fall along with some outfit inspiration. You might already have some of these pieces in your closet from last fall! This post may help you create an outfit from what you already have. Which is always nice with things being so expensive these days.

Let’s get started:)

Side Note: Dressing room photos are my favorite. 💕

This camouflage utility jacket will be a fall staple for me. I’m wearing it here with a basic tee, jeans, and some flats. Or it would be cute with a pair of leggings, a t-shirt, and some tennis shoes. Maybe throw on a baseball cap if you’re feeling crazy. 😉

Flat photography is not for the faint of heart. It’s hard to make something flat look decent. Here is my attempt!! This outfit is a flannel, ripped jeans (with patches behind the rips), a glitzy necklace, and some heels. If heels aren’t your thing try a pair of flats. My guess is all of you probably have jeans and a flannel in your closet so this outfit might be easy to re-create.

I can’t say enough great things about this green sweater kimono. I wore it twice in a row this week-#noshame. Also, if you follow my Facebook page you may have noticed I posted about it several times. It is a great transition piece from late summer to fall and into winter. I have it paired with a cream button down, ripped jeans, and booties.

Vests were so popular last fall and I don’t believe this fall will be any exception. I added this camo vest to my closet (I’m really loving camo). The thing I love about this vest is the floral patches that give it a feminine touch. Unfortunately, it’s no longer available but I still wanted to share it with you guys. I’ve paired it with a blush tunic and I think patches or no patches this blush tunic would look great with any camo vest. A pair of lighter colored jeans to contrast the camo and you are good to go! Stylish but comfy.

This outfit says “Give me all the apple cider donuts you have.” (Center Grove Orchard I’m looking at you). If you have never been to Center Grove Orchard in Cambridge, IA you need to go! This is a classic fall look that you can wear to the orchard, date night, or just every day. This sweatshirt is lightweight and could easily be worn under something. I went for red which is out of my color wheelhouse but sometimes you have to be brave. I think any solid color shirt with a plaid scarf is a solid fall outfit choice.

This pullover has been so popular for the last two seasons!! It’s unique with its asymmetrical buttons and comes in a variety of colors. You can pair it with jeans or leggings. PS- It has front pockets!! I secretly want it to get cooler just so I can wear this pullover. Also, these New Balance shoes are the best tennis shoe I have bought in a really long time. I couldn’t find these exact ones to link but I was able to find a similar style. It’s nice to have a tennis shoe that feels a little dressy if that makes any sense at all. If it doesn’t – carry on. lol

That’s a wrap folks!! Hopefully you feel some inspiration and maybe found some pieces and outfits you might want to try for yourself. If you have any questions ask away-I truly love that!!

Happy Fall y’all!!
